Investigators and patrol officers from Metropolitan Police Division 6, along with personnel from nearby police stations, tracked the suspect's movements toward the Suan Mali area. Police eventually located Lopez hiding in a temporary shelter near **Suan Mali Circle** and arrested him. The suspected yellow box cutter was also recovered. Police ultimately shot the suspect after attempts to subdue him with Tasers reportedly failed, and he later died from his injuries. The two incidents are separate cases, and there is no indication that they are connected. However, the recurrence of violent encounters involving foreign suspects and police has prompted renewed public discussion about public safety, enforcement and how authorities deal with people who may be intoxicated or behaving unpredictably. ## Investigation continues For now, investigators are focusing on establishing exactly what happened before, during and after the alleged store theft. Police are expected to review CCTV footage, interview witnesses, examine the suspected weapon and conduct additional medical testing on Lopez. The results could determine whether authorities pursue further charges related to the reported methamphetamine finding.
