CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES — A late-night confrontation between neighbors took a dramatic turn after a Grab rider was arrested for allegedly hammering the doorknob of a woman's room in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City.

But the suspect insists he was not trying to rob her.

Instead, he claimed he wanted to confront the woman because he believed she was behind a dummy social media account allegedly sending messages to him and his pregnant live-in partner.

The incident happened at around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, in Barangay Basak Pardo.

Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Sonny,” 30, a Grab rider who lives with his partner in the same area.

The complainant, identified by the alias “Dina,” 33, is a marketing executive and reportedly a neighbor of the suspect.

According to Dina's statement to police, she was asleep when she suddenly woke up to a disturbing sound.

Someone was allegedly hammering the doorknob of her room.

Fearing for her safety, she shouted for help.

Police patrol arrives and suspect is arrested

Fortunately, police officers on patrol reportedly arrived in the area while the incident was unfolding.

The officers arrested Sonny and took him into custody.

He is currently being held at the Inayawan Police Station and is facing an attempted robbery case, according to the SunStar report.

However, the suspect strongly denied that robbery was his intention.

Suspect says: 'I just wanted to talk to her'

In an interview with SunStar SuperBalita Cebu, Sonny denied trying to rob the woman.

He claimed he was angry because he believed Dina was responsible for a dummy account that had allegedly been sending messages to him and his live-in partner.

The suspect said his partner is seven months pregnant.

According to his account, he believed the messages were intended to cause conflict between him and his partner.

He claimed he wanted to speak with Dina and get her to stop the alleged online harassment.

But when she refused to open the door, he allegedly began hammering the doorknob.

The unusual case centres on the suspect's belief that his neighbor was allegedly behind a fake social media account.

Sonny reportedly said he was convinced Dina was responsible.

However, he also reportedly admitted that he had no evidence linking her to the account.
