19-Year-Old Birthday Celebrant Detained After Exposure Incident in Naga City
NAGA CITY, Cebu — What was supposed to be a birthday celebration ended with a 19-year-old man spending the night in a police detention cell after an argument over ₱1,000 escalated into an unusual roadside confrontation.
The incident happened on the evening of Monday, September 7, 2026, along the National Highway in Barangay Langtad, Naga City, according to a report by SunStar's Superbalita Cebu.
The suspect, identified by police as alias “Larry,” 19, a resident of Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, was detained at the Naga City Police Station following a complaint from a 20-year-old woman, identified as alias “Tarah,” and two of her companions.
Birthday celebration takes unexpected turn
According to Police Master Sergeant Ariel Yap, an investigator with the Naga City Police Station, the young man had been celebrating his birthday at a beach resort in the area with family and friends.
At one point, Larry reportedly left the resort to cash out money through GCash at a nearby store.
While walking back, however, he noticed that his ₱1,000 was missing.
He later saw Tarah and her friends waiting for a public utility jeepney bound for Cebu City.
Police said Larry accused them of taking his money.
The group denied the accusation, triggering a heated argument.
Argument escalates
The confrontation reportedly became more intense after Larry had been drinking.
According to the police investigator quoted by Superbalita Cebu, the suspect attempted to show where he believed his money had been placed and, during the confrontation, removed his shorts, exposing his genitals.
Tarah and her companions reportedly became traumatized by the incident, with police also saying the suspect allegedly shouted at them and called them thieves.
The details of the confrontation, however, became more complicated as police continued investigating.
Police later say exposure may not have been intentional
During the investigation, police reportedly determined that Larry may not have deliberately intended to expose himself.
According to the account given by investigators, he had apparently gone swimming earlier and had forgotten that he was not wearing underwear after bathing.
Police nevertheless initially prepared to pursue a case for Unjust Vexation over the incident.
That distinction is important.
The initial complaint and the subsequent police investigation do not necessarily establish that the exposure was deliberately intended as a sexual act.
Complainant does not pursue case
The situation changed after the complainant reportedly did not return to the police station to formally pursue the complaint.
Because there was no complainant to proceed with the case, authorities released Larry on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 8.
He also reportedly apologized for what happened.
