Fann Wong and Christopher Lee Reunite After 17 Years—But Their New Roles Aren’t What Fans Expected
Singaporean celebrity couple Fann Wong and Christopher Lee are returning to the big screen together after 17 years, but this time they will not be appearing as live-action characters.
The married stars are lending their voices to Library Of Mystory, an upcoming Singapore-produced 3D animated feature scheduled for release in June 2027.
The reunion marks their first feature-film collaboration since the 2009 romantic comedy The Wedding Game, and their first joint venture into animated voice acting as a couple.
From on-screen couple to animated royalty
In Library Of Mystory, Wong and Lee take on royal roles, voicing the Emperor and Empress, who are the parents of the film's young protagonist, Crown Prince Chengxi.
The story is set in a fictional world inspired by the Tang Dynasty and follows Chengxi, a carefree young prince who would rather spend his time wrestling, practising archery, playing cuju and riding horses than preparing for the responsibilities of royalty.
As his birthday approaches, however, tradition forces the young prince to confront expectations surrounding his future and his role within the royal family.
The film's central story eventually takes the young prince into a world involving a prestigious academy and a mysterious library, adding fantasy and adventure to the period-inspired setting.
A reunion fans have been waiting for
For longtime Singaporean television and film audiences, the project represents a significant reunion.
Wong and Lee previously shared the screen in productions including The Return Of The Condor Heroes, and later starred together in The Wedding Game in 2009. They have also appeared together in other television projects, including Looking For Stars and Doppelganger.
Their return to a feature film after nearly two decades is therefore likely to attract attention from fans who followed their careers from their early television collaborations.
Interestingly, the pair were already in a relationship when they made The Wedding Game. They subsequently married in 2009.
A Singapore-made animation with an ambitious origin
Library Of Mystory is being produced by Movitoir Studios, a Singapore creative and animation studio.
The film is based on a book of the same name written by Singaporean author and filmmaker Chen Junhua, also known by his pen name Heroald Chern.
Chen is serving as the project's writer and director and is independently funding the production. The story originated as a 2016 book before being developed for the screen.
The project has been in development for some time. At the Asian Festival of Children's Content in May 2026, Chen discussed his journey of transforming Library Of Mystory from a book into a feature-length animated film.
The festival described Chen as a first-time, self-taught director who was using AI-powered 3D animation as part of the filmmaking process.
Movitoir Studios itself currently lists Library Of Mystory among its projects and confirms the planned June 2027 release.
More than just a celebrity reunion
While Wong and Lee provide major star power, they are part of a much larger local cast.
Other performers attached to the production include Clement Yeo, Lea Chong, Yokez, Leon Markcus, Timothy Wan, Alyssa Lie, Chia Dezhong and Audrey Luo, among others.
The production also involves student animators and creators from Singapore Polytechnic and ITE College Central, giving the project an additional focus on developing local creative and animation talent.
The film will also feature original music, with songs being created for the animated feature.
Why Library Of Mystory could be worth watching
The project arrives at an interesting moment for Singapore's animation industry.
Instead of relying solely on an established international animation studio, Library Of Mystory is being developed as an independent Singapore production, bringing together professional performers, emerging creatives, students and new animation technology.
That makes the film more than a nostalgic reunion for Fann Wong and Christopher Lee. It is also an attempt to build a locally produced animated feature around an original Singaporean story.
For Wong and Lee's fans, however, the biggest attraction may be hearing the familiar couple in an entirely different setting—as the Emperor and Empress of an animated kingdom.
Library Of Mystory is currently scheduled to arrive in June 2027.
