The victims were identified as John Andrew Cañete, 10, a Grade 4 pupil who was riding the bicycle, and Grae Harrison Alquizalas, 8, a Grade 3 pupil who was riding behind him.

Both children were residents of Barangay Candugay.

Initial police information indicated that the SUV and the children's bicycle were traveling in opposite directions.

Witnesses reportedly told investigators that the SUV, driven by a 37-year-old municipal employee identified only as alias “Carl,” was overtaking a motorcycle when it moved into the opposite lane.
