AIA Philippines Unveils Platinum Secure as Filipinos Rethink Retirement and Long-Term Financial Security
MANILA, Philippines — As Filipinos live longer and retirement planning becomes increasingly important, AIA Philippines has introduced AIA Platinum Secure, a participating whole-life insurance plan designed to combine long-term life protection with guaranteed cash benefits.
The new product was launched alongside BPI AIA’s ADDvantage in August 2026, with both companies positioning the plans as responses to changing retirement needs, longer life expectancy and rising financial pressures on Filipino families.
A plan built around protection and future income
AIA Platinum Secure provides life insurance coverage of up to 200% of the policy’s face amount, with coverage extending to age 100. It also offers guaranteed cash payouts equivalent to 10% of the face amount every other year, subject to the policy terms and the insured being alive at the time of payout.
When the policyholder reaches age 80 and age 90, the plan provides milestone bonuses equivalent to 25% of the face amount for each milestone. If the insured reaches age 100, the plan provides a guaranteed maturity benefit equal to 150% of the face amount.
For example, AIA's published illustration for a ₱500,000 face amount shows ₱50,000 guaranteed cash payouts every other year, ₱125,000 milestone bonuses at ages 80 and 90, a sample death benefit of up to ₱1 million, and a ₱750,000 maturity benefit at age 100. These are illustrative figures, not guaranteed returns for every policyholder, and actual benefits depend on the policy purchased and its terms.
When do the cash payouts start?
The timing depends on the payment option.
For Single Pay and 2-Pay, guaranteed cash payouts begin at the end of the fifth policy year.
For 5-Pay, 10-Pay and 20-Pay, payouts begin at the end of the eighth policy year, with payments continuing every other year subject to the policy conditions.
The product offers Single Pay, 2-Pay, 5-Pay, 10-Pay and 20-Pay options, although the 2-Pay option is identified by AIA as a limited offer. Eligibility also varies by payment period.
Retirement planning is becoming a bigger concern
The launch comes as demographic changes reshape how Filipino families think about retirement.
AIA Philippines and BPI AIA cited figures showing that Filipinos aged 60 and above now account for 9.6% of the population, with the share projected to reach around 11% by 2030. Longer life expectancy, smaller families and increasing healthcare costs are among the factors putting greater emphasis on preparing financially for later life.
The product is therefore positioned not simply as life insurance, but as a potential component of a broader protection and retirement-planning strategy.
Dividends are possible—but not guaranteed
One important distinction for potential policyholders is the difference between the plan's guaranteed benefits and its dividend component.
AIA Platinum Secure is a participating whole-life insurance plan, meaning policyholders may receive dividends when declared. However, AIA explicitly states that these dividends are not guaranteed and depend on the company's performance and applicable policy provisions.
That distinction matters when comparing the product with investments or other savings vehicles: the guaranteed benefits should not be presented as an investment return, while potential dividends should not be treated as guaranteed earnings.
Additional protection can be added
AIA also offers optional riders that can supplement the basic policy, depending on eligibility and payment terms.
These include riders covering total and permanent disability, personal accidents, critical illness, hospital income, medical expenses and premium waivers, among others. Availability is subject to underwriting, eligibility requirements and the specific policy provisions.
Who is AIA Platinum Secure for?
AIA describes three broad groups that may consider the product:
- Life Builders — people building careers, starting families and supporting loved ones.
- Security Savers — individuals prioritizing financial stability and long-term goals.
- Legacy Planners — people looking to provide continued financial support for their families.
Ultimately, whether the plan is appropriate depends on an individual's income, financial goals, existing insurance, retirement needs and ability to maintain premium payments.
AIA also provides a premium calculator, but emphasizes that figures shown are for illustration and may change depending on the actual policy details.
The bigger financial question
The launch of AIA Platinum Secure reflects a broader shift in the Philippines: retirement planning is increasingly about preparing not only for the years after work, but also for the possibility of living significantly longer than previous generations.
With guaranteed cash benefits, lifetime protection and milestone benefits combined in one policy, the product is aimed at Filipinos looking for a structured way to prepare for future financial needs.
But as with any insurance product, consumers should read the policy contract carefully and understand what is guaranteed, what is conditional and what is not guaranteed before making a decision. AIA itself notes that the policy contract prevails if there is any inconsistency with promotional or illustrative information.
