LGBTQ Member Killed in Consolacion After Alleged Chicken Theft Confrontation

CONSOLACION, Cebu, Philippines — A 42-year-old member of the LGBTQ+ community was killed after allegedly being confronted by a chicken caretaker in Villaroca, Barangay Población Occidental, Consolacion, Cebu, on Sunday evening, September 6, 2026.

The victim was identified by his family as Damyano Bug-ot, a resort caretaker in Lapu-Lapu City and a resident of Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion.

According to police, the suspect, identified by the alias “Moises,” claimed he caught Bug-ot allegedly attempting to steal one of the chickens he was guarding.

Police said the suspect recounted that he saw Bug-ot running before allegedly entering a sack containing one of the chickens. A confrontation followed, resulting in the fatal attack.

The suspect is now detained at the Consolacion Municipal Police Station, while police prepare a homicide case against him.

Family disputes chicken theft allegation

Bug-ot's family, however, does not believe he was stealing a chicken.

His older sibling reportedly told authorities that Bug-ot had been drinking with friends earlier that day and was intoxicated when the incident happened.

The family believes the allegation of chicken theft may have been used by the suspect to justify the killing.

They also questioned whether only one person was involved because of the severity of Bug-ot's injuries.

Family plans autopsy

According to the victim's relatives, Bug-ot suffered severe injuries, including damage to his face that reportedly made him difficult to recognize.

The family also noted wounds on the side of his body that they described as stab wounds.

Because of these concerns, the family plans to have Bug-ot's remains subjected to an autopsy.

They have also expressed their determination to pursue the case in court.

Police preparing homicide complaint

The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding Bug-ot's death.

At this stage, the alleged chicken theft remains an accusation made by the suspect, while the family's claims about the circumstances and possible involvement of others remain subject to investigation.

The planned autopsy could provide investigators with additional evidence about the victim's injuries and cause of death.

The case underscores the need for authorities to establish what happened during the confrontation and whether the suspect's account is supported by evidence.

A disputed accusation over a chicken has now become the center of a homicide investigation, with Bug-ot's family demanding answers about how their relative died and who was responsible.
